The Journey

The purpose of this blog is to document Reed's journey with this horrible autoimmune skin disease, Pemphigus Foliaceus and hopefully help others who have dogs that have been diagnosed with this.

The Beginning

Pondview Black Meadow Marsh CGC

Reed is my own breeding, his father, my Champion boy "Louie" and his mother is a lovely girl, "Laney" from beautiful pedigree. Her brother, "Case" is my other Champion.
Reed was not the pick of the litter. He was smaller than the brothers but I loved how he stacked up and felt he was worth taking a chance on. He never had four feet on the ground, much like his energetic mom, and hardly ever stood still, very much like his dad. Bubbling with enthusiasm  and personality, he is a joy!

I am a minimalist when it comes to vaccines, and also any types of internal or topical medications for fleas or ticks. We use organic fertilizer on the lawn, and for the most part, my line is cancer free even with all my puppies with owners after 20 years and 18 litters. I have fed a variety of foods from raw diet for over a decade and also grain free when it was thought to be the better thing to do before current research regarding DCM.  I now have all my 15 Labradors on Purina Sport Chicken 30/20 and everyone has done well on it for the last 5 years. Reed is only 4, so that is really the only food he has had. He has never had any allergies, ear infections, hot spots, skin infections...the picture of health.
So fast forward to everyone blowing coat in December 2019 and cold weather, holidays, family visiting and then January 2020.
January 6 was my first indication that Reed was having a problem but initially I had no idea of what I was dealing with.
